“They have some great pitching, but they can’t hit,

“It’s torture all right,” Buck said. “I have a feeling though. It’s going to be a great night.”
Edward Buck took his girlfriend, a new Giants fan decked out in black and orange, to Harry’s Bar in the upper Fillmore — where standing room was at a premium. The game was getting ugly after both teams cleared the benches, and the tension was getting thick.
The excitement swept up Alyssa Prowler, 22, who wasn’t much of a baseball fan until the Giants made the playoffs.
Prowler’s roommate, however, has been a fan for as long as he can remember. Early in the evening, Doug Rose, 22, said the prospect of the Giants winning the World Series once seemed “unbelievable,” but now seems so close.
Despite the nerves, The City was electric. Everyone seemed to be having a great night. At Kezar Pub in the Haight, hundreds packed into the steamy bar, riveted even by commercials.
The team faced a hostile crowd in Philadelphia, and some of that ill will managed its way into San Francisco. At Jake’s Steaks in the Marina,

, Phillies fans swilled beers and slurped on red Jell-O shots while shouting obscenities at the television.
“Just walking around and seeing so many people in their jerseys, it’s pretty cool,” she said.
“I think back to May and how I wasn’t expecting them to go this far,” Rose said. “Everything they do now is icing on the cake.”
Giants fans endured another nail-biter Saturday but rejoiced as the Phillies fell 3-2.
Anyone walking through the wet, wind-whipped streets of San Francisco on Saturday night was sure to hear screams of agony and cheers of jubilation coming from bars filled to capacity. Emotions ran high for diehard and fair-weather fans alike, with San Francisco unable to shake its playoff fever.
